diffraction intensities can be made by considering the two sets of planes shown below in a unit
cell containing a simple, planar molecule:
Certainly, the 003 planes would be expected to give rise to a diffraction spot with a large
intensity (because these planes contain a large amount of electron density) but the 002 reflection
would be expected to have a small intensity.
